The Animal Resources Centre (ARC) is a totally self-funding Statutory Authority of the Government of Western Australia which was established in 1981 to produce high quality Specific Pathogen Free (SPF), genetically defined laboratory animals for research, diagnostic purposes and teaching.
The ARC produces outbred, inbred, mutant, hybrid and congenic mice and rats, transgenic and targeted mutant strains of mice and transgenic rats.
The Animal Resources Centre produces and sells laboratory animals that are free from known disease causing organisms ie. specified pathogen free (SPF) animals. Many of the strains of animals produced have specified genetic characteristics. Production processes conform to high standards of animal welfare and meet requirements stipulated in the relevant codes of practice and legislation. Products are sold to organisations that undertake medical, veterinary, biopharmaceutical or other scientific research and that are known to practice high standards of animal welfare, demonstrated in Australia by operating under the control of a recognised Animal Ethics Committee compliant with the Code.
